About Martina

Welcome to Don’t Want a Boss!

My name is Martina and I own and write all of the content for this blog (unless stated otherwise via guest posts).

I’m so grateful that you’ve taken some time out of your busy schedule to come check out my site. The mission of Don’t Want a Boss and my personal mission is to help you get out of your job once and for all.

I want to help you in any way I can to do the following:

  1. Find a way to generate income online while working a job or working as a mom or whatever your current responsibilities are
  2. Automate that method of generating income into a passive strategy so that you can start making money when you’re at work or sleeping or whatever else you like doing
  3. Scale that method so that you can – wait for it! – quit your job!
  4. Do whatever it is that you’ve always wanted to do in life whether that’s traveling, spending more time with family and friends, doing arts and crafts, going back to school, etc!

A Little Bit of Background

Growing up, I was taught that life was about learning, pursuing your passions and spending time with those that you loved. A quote that always resonated with me was

“You can do anything you want in life, just not all at the same time.”

I’m not sure who said this quote but I loved it. It meant that everyone could achieve all their dreams, they just had to take it one step at a time. I’m quite energetic and it’s tough for me to contain my focus to one thing at a time so I still multitask a lot of the time but I try my best to overall do 1 thing at a time in each area of my life.

I’m sure some of you who are reading this will resonate with me when I say that I was shocked to realize that most people do the opposite of what I was taught my whole life:

  • Most people stop learning after graduating from college, doing the same thing over and over at a 9-5 (or 8-6) job
  • Most people stop pursing their passions in favor of being realistic because they have bills to pay
  • Most people have very limited time they spend with the people they love because they’re always working

The worst part about all of this was the fact that this all seemed to be not only the normal way of living, but the “highest standard” of living. This is what everyone aspired to after age 25 when life became “real”.

Finish school, graduate with a useful degree, get a good paying job, buy all the stuff you want, take a vacation once or twice a year, work for promotions so you can work longer hours and buy more stuff you want, work more so that you can support kids and a family you barely see, and then work even more so that you can retire on a half-decent pension plan.

In all honesty, I had a quarter-life crisis at around this point marked by panic attacks. This could not be all there was!

So I decided that even though I was pursuing a professional degree, I would create a backup plan for myself in the form of affiliate marketing. I created one blog, then another, then took on social media to better market them. After learning how to be an affiliate, I started looking into e-commerce and started an online store. Then, I moved into the service business and offered some consulting services. Eventually, I moved into investing and now invest in both stocks and cryptocurrencies.

Essentially I’ve experimented every which way!

Why I’m Doing This

For over a year now I’ve been really focusing on giving back and helping others.

I’ve wanted to create a platform to help others for quite a while but I thought this was a great time to do it because I’ve gotten quite a bit of experience in the space. Although I’m far from an expert or a “guru” as they like to call themselves, I want to help! And I figure what better way to do that then to start another blog all about helping others who are in a similar situation to where I was?

Although I did have some help when I was first starting out, it was mostly paid help and a lot of the emotional aspects of what I was going through was not addressed. Also, I got stuck so many times and ended up spending years just stuck at a single point in my business model at the time not knowing where to go next and throwing money this way and that hoping to get some help (in retrospect a very bad strategy that I do not recommend).

Trying to build income for yourself from scratch online is HARD! I say this not to discourage you, I really don’t. And I know you can do it. I say this because experts/gurus/etc. always tell you how easy it is and then when you can’t do it or you get stuck trying to follow their lead in a course or in a blog post or you don’t get the results that they tell you that you will, you feel really bad and like it’s you who is doing something wrong.

It’s not you!

It’s a tough space, the experts often don’t tell you the whole story and they often have an existing audience they can leverage to get the “OVERNIGHT!” results that they advertise to you.

The DontWantABoss.com Mission

I want to do this to help people when they’re down, when they’re stuck and when they don’t know what to do next. That is where I want to come in.

It’s easy to be the person who charges 5k for the “learn it all course” on how to become a millionaire overnight. It’s easy to get people hyped up and excited about making 6-7 figures a year. That’s the easy part and also why so many people do it unethically to get a quick pay-day.

The hard part is actually helping people succeed. Actually helping others create wealth, freedom and take back their own lives. Helping people get through the downs of being an entrepreneur and trying to make something out of nothing.

If you’re reading this, I already know and you should know that you have it in you to succeed. All you need is a little bit of support that society won’t give you. And hopefully this little of space online can do that for you.

So if you feel stuck, please get in touch and let’s figure it out together because we honestly are all in this together! If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.

You can find me in this community (it’s free to join – no credit card required). Also you can start here if you want to learn exactly what I did to start my business from the ground up.

Let’s make it happen!

  1. This is quite right, Martina! You have hit the nail on the head. Most of us are stuck into a routine that we hate just to get the Bills Paid and put Food on the table. It would be such a delight if I could balance my work loads and was able to spend more time with my Family. As it is now, I rarely get to see them and I’m missing out on the best Years of my life.
Is there a way where I can start an Online Business with about 8 hours spare time in the evenings and Weekends.
I know success will not happen overnight, but how long does it normally take to start earning money?
    Much appreciated, Jeff.

    • Hey Jeff,

Thank you for reaching out! That’s precisely why I decided to start this website – because we’re honestly meant for so much more than that. But we have to go out and take it for ourselves because our society isn’t organized in such a way that it makes it easy for us to pursue our own paths. The big corporations have got to get their employees from somewhere you know and we’ll honestly still stuck in the Industrial age of doing things.

Family is the most important thing I agree – as it is now I don’t have kids yet but my fiancé and I have 3 dogs between us and are looking into buying some land soon for a horse ranch and it’s the worst feeling when you don’t have control over whether you spend time together or not.

So getting to your question – yes there is! I would start by checking out my top recommendation by clicking here, which you may or may not have heard of already. It is absolutely doable to do on the weekends and feel free to email me if you’re interested so we can put together a plan of action for you.

I find on average if you work at it, people start making solid money in about 2-3 months, full income replacement by about 1 year and are ready to retire after about 4-6 years. These are average numbers and I’ve seen people do it faster and people who do it slower. If you’re willing to dedicate 8 hours a week, each week, I would say you’re looking at the faster track.

Let me know if you have anymore questions!

  2. I have tried to make money online through two sites and both of them failed. I just got a new job, and that alone has re-ignited my desire to attempt to make money online, but I know that this next time I have to do something different, something more unique, or maybe smarter. I am unsure what niche to pick this time, but I am considering angling towards something that I know will have an area of profit, and an acceptable level of competition.

    • Hey Jacob,

I’m really sorry to hear that, I know it can be super frustrating when you feel like you’re working so hard to make something succeed and then it doesn’t go anywhere. I don’t think your efforts were for nothing though – I’m sure you learned a TON during that time.

If you don’t mind me asking, what niche were you in and what type of business were you doing? Like e commerce, membership site, affiliate marketing, etc.?

  3. Hi Martina I love your site.

I’m finding it really difficult to find an online platform for business that is not a scam…and when I do come across more legitimate ones, they are just too time demanding for my schedule.

I am trying to increase my experience in online business but am looking for the right guidance on how to do that?

Don’t know if you could be of any help

    • Hey Matron,

Thanks for your feedback! Really appreciate that 🙂

I would say the best way to improve your overall business knowledge is to read. Find international best sellers in the business genre and just start reading. If you read 1 book per month, in a few years, you’ll know more than 95% of people out there about business.

If you’re looking for an online platform to help you with building a website, keyword research & give you step by step guidance of what to do to build residual income at a pace that feels comfortable for you, click here for my personal recommendation

      Hope this helps!

  4. Hi Martina,

I do not want to start narrating my personal experience online to you, but I can cut the long story short and tell you that it has not been a pleasant one, it is very difficult to get a job in my country and as of now I am jobless, but every little I manage to salvage and start an online business it gets lost in it, as of now I am stuck and lost.
    What would you advise?

    • Hi Dave,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re struggling. In terms of what I would advise – it would help if I had a little bit more detail about what you’re trying to achieve with your online business? I understand the comment section here may be a little public – why don’t you email me at martina@dontwantaboss.com and I’d be more than happy to try and help you come up with a plan?
